Steven Cybart Announces Candidacy for Ellicott Ward 3 Town Council - Advocates for Open Government


Today, Steven Cybart, a seasoned veteran and retired Ellicott Police Officer, officially announced his candidacy for the Ellicott Town Council, Ward 3. With a proven record of committed service to the country and the local community, Cybart looks forward to continuing his lifelong dedication to service in a new role.


Cybart served as a Captain in the U.S. Army for over 21 years, earning several distinguished awards for his service, including the Good Conduct Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Primary NCO Academy Ribbon, National Defense Ribbon with Oak Leaf Cluster, and Ribbons for Long & Faithful Service at 5, 10, 15, and 20-year milestones. A Ground Zero first responder during 9/11, he was awarded the NYS Defense of Liberty.


Upon retirement from the Army, Cybart continued to serve his community as an Ellicott Police Officer. During his tenure, he specialized in juvenile cases, bringing compassion and understanding to some of the town's most sensitive issues.


Cybart holds a Bachelor's degree in Law, Justice & Society from SUNY Fredonia, equipping him with a deep understanding of the legal landscape and societal dynamics that will inform his approach to council leadership.


A life member and officer of the American Legion, Cybart’s dedication to his community and his country remains steadfast. His campaign slogan – “Lifetime of Serving Our Country and Our Community” – exemplifies not only his past but his commitment to a future of dedicated service.


"I am running for the Town Council to ensure that the voices of Ellicott Ward 3 are heard and respected," said Cybart. "I've spent my life serving our country and community, and I'm ready to continue that service in a new capacity. Together, we can make a real difference."
