From Marine to Main-stage
Charting a Dynamic Course for Chautauqua!"
Brace yourselves, Chautauqua County! Powerhouse Kurt Gustafson, the heart and soul of County Legislative District 15, covering the iconic neighborhoods of West Ellicott, Celoron, and Falconer, has thrown his hat in the ring for the Chautauqua County Legislature!
Born, raised, and molded by the vibrant spirit of Chautauqua, this Southwestern Central School alumnus is no stranger to duty and dedication. After proudly donning the uniform for *two action-packed tours as a Marine Corps officer*, Kurt sailed back home to the warm embrace of his beloved wife Margie, and their two fantastic sons, Nicholas and Ryan. The Gustafson family has been adding color and energy to West Ellicott since the memorable year of 1999.

1999 was more than just a homecoming for Kurt! He stepped up to serve Chautauqua once again, taking on the mantle as the assistant county attorney. Over a span of nearly two decades, our man Kurt rubbed shoulders with four dynamic county executives and held the esteemed title of president for the New York State Public Employment Labor Relations Association. His leadership didn't stop there. Kurt currently wields his expertise as a labor relations specialist with Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES, guiding and collaborating with the top minds from 26 school districts.

But wait, there’s more! Kurt is the reigning president of the Southwestern Central School District board. A decade of service and still going strong! He's a pivotal figure on the Executive Committee of the Chautauqua County School Board Association and plays a crucial role in the Awards and Recognition Committee of the New York State School Boards Association. Remember those thrilling Big Fish Triathlon events? That’s the Chautauqua Lake Triathlon Coalition in action, with Kurt serving as a key officer.
His commitment to the community shines brightly as he chairs the YMCA Camp Onyahsa Camp Advisory Committee. Kurt’s legacy also includes a stint as the president of St. Susan’s Center Board of Directors and contributions to the Southwestern Youth Baseball Board of Directors.

"I've always felt this magnetic pull towards serving our county,” shares the spirited Gustafson. “With my deep roots and expansive knowledge of our county's operations, I cherish the incredible workforce that drives Chautauqua. While our county is a slice of paradise, I am well aware of the economic, environmental, and social hurdles we face. It's time to roll up our sleeves, connect with the vibrant minds of our community, and craft a radiant future together."
